In the UK, Uniper currently offers two unique schemes especially designed to provide you with the flexibility to be able to explore your career options but also gives you the structure and development you need to be successful. You’ll complete a range of engineering and industry specific courses as well as first class on the job training. We have a dedicated graduate team whose aim is to ensure you are supported, developed and challenged throughout your scheme.
In addition, our accredited schemes provide you with the foundations you need to begin your journey toward Chartership – we’ll provide you with a trained mentor and all the guidance you need to achieve your goals.

Our Generation Engineering Graduate Scheme is a fully rotational two year programme where you will complete four, 6 month placements. You’ll have the flexibility to experience different business areas, selecting placement you will find interesting, challenging and that will benefit your development. Your development will be tracked and monitored against our engineering technical capabilities and you will be fully supported throughout your scheme.
You’ll begin your scheme with a week’s induction designed to provide an overview of our business and giving you the opportunity to meet other graduates, and network with senior colleagues. You’re first placement will be especially selected to provide you with a great start within the business; you then have the flexibility to choose and source your subsequent placements. You will off-board your scheme into a key engineering role on one of our generation sites in the UK. From here, there’s no stopping you.
Our Science and Engineering Excellence Graduate Scheme is an especially designed scheme to help you become one of our industry leading experts of the future. You will be recruited into a specialist team within the Uniper Engineering area of the business who provide multidisciplinary engineering and technical services to our customers throughout their assets whole lifecycle – from innovation services to decommissioning.
You’ll begin your graduate scheme with a week’s induction to the company before moving into your home team to begin learning about their specialist services. Throughout your graduate scheme you will have the opportunity to complete two, 3-4 month placements including one international. These placements will provide you with fantastic insight into the rest of our international business as well as the breadth and experience to help you progress in your career as an expert. Finally, you will off-board your scheme into your specialist home team and begin your career as one of our industry experts.
If you’re currently in the middle of your university degree and are looking to enhance your academic studies with commercial experience working with a global company on real-life projects, then one of our Engineering Year in Industry roles could be for you!
Here at Uniper we have a range of Undergraduate ‘year in Industry’ placements available both within our generation business, and our Uniper Technologies business. Placements offer first-hand experience working on real projects. You could be working on a specialist project for one of our customers or on plant at one of our generation sites looking at efficiencies or performance. The possibilities are endless.
If you perform well, impress the right people and enjoy your time with us, there is also the opportunity to ‘fast-track’ onto one of our Graduate Schemes following the completion of your degree.
Our Year in Industry opportunities are only open to those currently studying (i.e. students who will be returning to university for subsequent study following the completion of their placement year).

Our apprenticeships combine classroom study and hands-on practical learning, with on the job experience to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to become a successful technician.
What will you do?
Our apprenticeship is a 3 ½ year programme where you will gain the skills, knowledge and qualifications you’ll need to start your career in engineering! For the first two years of your apprenticeship you will spend most of your time training at our specialist Uniper Engineering Academy, based at Ratcliffe on Soar in Nottingham. During years 3 and 4 you will spend your time on site carrying out your role!
Whilst on the scheme you will gain a BTEC (Level 3) Diploma in either Mechanical or Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as an NVQ (Level 3) Extended Diploma.
In addition to formal qualifications you will also attend a range of enhanced practical training courses. These vary depending on your discipline but you could be doing anything from Basic Hand Skills, Machining and Pipework through to Pneumatic Actuators, Switchgear and Automatic Control!
Once you finish your apprenticeship, you may also have the opportunity to join our Generation business full time as an Engineering Technician or Craftsperson!
What support will you get?
Throughout your apprenticeship you will get support and guidance from a specialist apprenticeships team based at the Engineering Academy as well as your on-site managers and mentors.
Safety is paramount here at Uniper and we will always ensure that you are safe whilst at work. In addition, we will ensure you are taught all of the safety rules and procedures that we have in place during your training!

Our Uniper Trainee Programme will give you a thorough induction into the many different activities of a global energy actor and advance your personal development over a period of 24 months.
You should have recently graduated having studied a degree - your focus could be Mechanical, Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (C&I) or similar to join the Trainee Programme. Uniper will offer you the support you need and foster your professional and personal development right from day one. As a trainee, you will experience the breadth and depths of the energy industry, tackle the challenges head on and lay the foundation for your future development in one of the most exciting sectors existing.
