With about 40 gigawatts of installed generating capacity, we rank among the large international power producers.
With a high proportion of hydro and gas-fired capacity, our generation fleet is particularly climate friendly. Our highly flexible capacity can be fine-tuned at all times to deliver the right amount of electricity. Our main generation markets in Europe are Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Benelux countries, and France.
Our generation assets outside Europe are located primarily in Russia. Our five power stations there are located in key industrial regions (Central Russia, Ural and Western Siberia).
Our expertise comes from more than a century of real-world experience in power generation and from a passion for innovation and continuous efficiency improvement. This expertise and heritage drive our many programs dedicated to continually improving our plants’ performance and cost structure. And we conduct systematic knowledge management so that we can share best practices among our existing plants and draw on this storehouse of knowledge when we develop and build new ones.
We have extensive experience managing large, complex portfolios of generation assets and continually optimizing these assets both physically (by increasing their output, enabling them to co-fire biomass, and reducing their emissions) and through our dispatch and trading activities.
We group our assets into fleets by fuel type: primarily hydro, coal and gas. Our fleet approach enables us to conduct centralized procurement, disseminate best practices, diversify risk, and achieve greater standardization, all of which markedly reduce our costs.
