GIE press release regarding the value of gas storage
EU leaders acknowledge the importance of underground gas storage and recognise the need for policy changes
In this press release the European association Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) addresses the historically low filling levels of the European gas storage facilities and the very high prices on the energy market that occur at the same time. This special situation at the beginning of the cold season puts the focus on the storage facilities, which make an important contribution to security of supply throughout the winter.
Dr. Axel Wietfeld, president of Gas Storage Europe, talks about the sufficient technical capacities available to achieve storage levels of over 90% until January/February and at the same time appeals to the responsibility of market participants and authorities to be able to guarantee a secure supply over the coming six months.
