One day with… placement student Eamonn

Summary

Gathering experiences in a professional workplace

Only four months ago, the young Eamonn Everitt started to accompany Uniper on the way to a carbon-neutral future. As a placement student, the 21-year-old man immerses himself deeply in the industry and will support the team of process engineers for another eight months. He already knows for sure what kind of career path he will choose right after he graduates in Chemical Engineering from the University of Nottingham: “The sector of power generation, renewable energy and carbon capture is fascinating and versatile. I would really like to be part of the decarbonization. Due to my position as a placement student at Uniper I already get a deep dive”, says Eamonn. “For one year, I have the opportunity to learn about the industry and to apply the theory and capabilities I gained while studying in a real workplace.”

And the placement has already exceeded his expectations: “Thanks to my team and our leader I discovered diverse working areas including topics such as CCS retrofits, Hydrogen production technologies to air quality assessments. I have already contributed to and led on key parts in some massive projects, and I gained a lot of new skills – such as modelling and using analytical software. I look forward to the next months, where I hope to build on my capabilities and challenge myself”, Eamonn explains.

In one-to-one meetings with the team leader, which take place every two weeks, they talk about issues as well as Eamonn’s personal development. “And she gives me the opportunity to express my wishes, in which field or projects I would like to be involved or to gather more experiences”, he explains. The team welcomed Eamonn with open arms – that’s what defines the way Uniper’s employees work. “Thanks to many digital solutions which have been implemented very fast, even the pandemic and the new way of working aren’t big obstacles. If I am struggling, I can call and talk to everyone I need. The openness and the flexibility of the working environment at Uniper are exceptional.”
