One day with… Tammy from our Engineering Academy

Summary

Developing skills and qualifications for a carbon-neutral, green future

It has already been 12 months since Tammy Bristow joined the Uniper Engineering Academy. Today, she is our Operations Manager and member of the Green Apprenticeships Advisory Panel which creates new green apprenticeships. When she left college, she chose an apprenticeship which allowed her to continue in education whilst securing an exciting career where she finally found her passion in learning and development. Now, as a team member of the Uniper Engineering Academy, she has big plans with a mission to develop skills and qualifications for a carbon-neutral future.

The team at the Uniper Engineering Academy delivers skills and knowledge to the next generation of engineers who will help us achieve a green future. In training, young people, who stand at the very beginning of their career path, gain a green mindset, learn about new technologies – such as green heating systems – and have the opportunity to play their part in nurturing a healthier planet. “To reach our targets, collaboration is the key. Therefore, we not only train Uniper employees. We work with many organizations, not only in the power sector, but also across manufacturing and construction. It’s also important that we continue to shape skills for the future, so I often liaise with universities, local and national government and the Department of Education”, Tammy said.

“It’s a brilliant job, I love every second of it. What I like most is how different it can be from one day to another. My daily role means managing our team of ten trainers, looking at our strategic direction and how we make ourselves fit for the future. But everything is changing at such a rapid pace, I am developing qualifications for jobs that aren’t even invented yet. We constantly have to think about what is coming next, it can be challenging and fascinating at the same time”, explained Tammy her daily work routine. “At the Uniper Engineering Academy, we work on developing a baseline of skills that are right for our industry. Wherever our learners go, we are providing a workforce that is fit for the future and giving them access to jobs that are exciting and will create a better world for future generations”, Tammy said. Over the next five years, the Uniper Engineering Academy is striving to become a center of excellence for decarbonized skills by working in collaboration with our technical experts across the business.
