Plant turnarounds and outages are critical, costly and complex, but are essential to ensure the compliance and fitness for purpose of the operation of power generation plant.
Our experience as owner and operator of 38GW generation assets has enabled us to develop bespoke asset integrity management techniques as an alternative to traditional and often higher cost approaches.
We help you to reduce commercial complexity, by bringing together a wide range of technical and commercial expertise, coordinated by specialists with decades of experience.
We share our know how to help you improve your maintenance strategies, with careful planning and risk management to deliver the most cost-effective run/replace/repair strategies.
Our comprehensive suite of Technical Assurance services introduces a disciplined approach to plant turnarounds and outages of all sizes. We help you to plan the optimum inspection regime, minimizing cost and time required for the project.
Engaging our independent technical support prior to and during your project will enable you to challenge suppliers, and monitor the technical quality of contractors, components and installation.
We will help to provide advance knowledge of emergent component damage and cost-effective solutions to these issues.
Optimizing your plant turnaround and outage projects, and gaining an expert insight into the condition of your plant, will be critical to improved asset-related investment planning.
Our Technical Assurance services include:
- Scope optimization
- Quality assurance
- Industry good practice
- Asset integrity assurance
- Technical solutions
- Return to service
Our scenario planning delivers optimized maintenance and investment strategies. Risks are addressed as you gain an understanding of plant condition to underpin future plant operation. Improve the integration and co-ordination of project teams and increase outage periodicity to reduce costs and increase plant availability.
We ensure that components purchased and workmanship are to the correct quality. This will minimize failure during future operation and avoid the cost and lost revenue from breakdowns.
Industry good practice
We help to ensure your plant is inspected and assessed to industry good practice and we use our extensive experience to incorporate lessons learnt from world-wide failures.
Asset integrity assurance
We assess the fitness for service and degradation damage of plant components. We give independent advice on cost-effective options to operate with damaged components and maximum component life.
We provide independent, cost-effective run/repair/replace solutions, in addition to safety case to operate with defects, reverse engineering and design modifications.
Return to service
We offer immediate technical support, troubleshooting, combustion optimization and balancing of rotors.
|International utility – energy from waste (wood)||Optimize periodicity of inspections for the pressure systems to improve availability and reduce maintenance costs.||We increased outage periodicity using Optimum Pressure Systems Inspection Strategies on pressure systems at two power plants.||Outage periodicity increased on one unit from 2 to 4 years and the other 2 to 3 years.|
|International utility – Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Station||Quality issues with gas turbine main contractors.||Our highly-experienced Gas Turbine Build Engineers checked components and build quality.||Blades with blocked cooling ducts were replaced and machine returned to service. Failure to have identified this would have resulted in early replacement of blades and lost generation.|
|International utility – Advanced Super Critical power plant||During a routine inspection defects were identified in the reheater 2 welds (HR3C - HR3C & HR3C-IN617).||Root cause analysis undertaken – relaxation cracking and stress corrosion cracking safety case, including exclusion zones, developed to enable operation whilst longer term solutions explored.||Longer term solution subject to approvals. Our developed safety case avoided two months lost generation at highest (winter) generation prices.|
