Increasing capacity for 1400 MW CCGT
Our client sought to increase the capacity and efficiency of a 1,400 MW plant in the UK. We recommended and managed the retrofit of last-row turbine blades on the plant’s four units. This delivered a 7 MW increase in capacity and a three percent improvement in efficiency, in total worth €6.3m increased revenue over the plant lifetime.
Maximizing working gas for gas storage
We supported our client with its gas storage facility in Eastern Europe to increase the working gas volume and injection rate, by boosting the reservoir pressure as well as adding two turbo compressors. The turbo compressors were to be operated in series or parallel to the existing piston compressors. We developed time and cost plans, planned the modifications, and coordinated and monitored all construction and commissioning work. In a time frame of two and a half years from conceptional design to commercial operation, we managed to finalize an exceptional enhancement of our client‘s gas storage facility with little or no impact on its running business and at a lower cost than other recommended solutions.
Operational gains from innovative coal plant design
Our client chose us to integrate innovative value adding concepts to its new 1,100 MW coal and biomass-fired plant in the Netherlands. Our team was able to make modifications to the original design to maximize benefits from the coastal location, such as increased output due to seawater cooling. While our operational experience helped deliver gains including improved safety, cost and time savings and also technologies for high efficiency and availability.
Re-powering for onshore wind farm
Our client needed to optimize the long-term commercial value of an early 1990s wind farm. We provided both technical and commercial support to justify continued safe operation of the existing plant beyond the original design life, whilst developing the environmental permitting requirements for a repowered site. The final design proposed by us took advantage of the latest technology advancements. The repowered site now has less than half the original number of wind turbines but has an increased power output maximizing the electrical grid connection capacity.
Services package for new biomass plant
We supported our client with a new plant project in the UK from conception to operation. Our hands-on experience gave them the assurance that we could deliver the project to time, cost, and quality and support the ongoing asset operation. Our scope included permitting and consent, supplier quality testing, commissioning, fuel testing, emissions monitoring, pressure systems life management, outage management, and warranty negotiations.
Electrical solution for world's largest railroad converter
We planned a 400 kV substation, incorporating the world’s most powerful railroad converter, and a 100 kV auxiliary connection for our client’s new 1,100 MW coal-fired plant in Germany. We delivered project management, engineering, commissioning, quality assurance and quality control, and temporary operation of the switchyard. Partnering with us, the project was executed on time and on budget so that our client was able to successfully commission the 413 MW railroad converter, which is capable of supplying 25% of the power required by Germany’s rail network.
