Helping customers decarbonize

Uniper is steadily decarbonizing its business. And helping its customers decarbonize theirs. We do this by providing them with a reliable supply of increasingly clean energy. And by designing individually tailored solutions to make their processes climate-friendlier.

Societies face numerous challenges that can only be solved through joint action. Uniper’s primary role is to support Europe’s energy transition by providing a secure, affordable, and reliable supply of power, gas, and heat, while simultaneously making this energy progressively climate friendlier. We’re also committed to doing our part to ensure that this transition is fair. In addition, we support communities where we have facilities by conducting projects to promote culture, environmental protection, and sport.

Memberships

Joint positive action requires relationships founded on trust. We collaborate with associations and initiatives that are directly or indirectly involved in addressing our material sustainability topics. We believe this is the most effective way to tackle the challenges we face and, ultimately, prevent negative impacts.

Suppliers

Responsible sourcing health and safety

Our efforts to promote sustainability extend to our suppliers. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects therefore affect our sourcing. They’re integral to supplier onboarding and ongoing risk monitoring. We select the suppliers that fit with our procurement strategy and our business requirements and meet our sustainability criteria.

You’ll find more information about how we promote sustainability along our value chain here.

Shareholders

We’re in continual dialog with capital market participants, including current and potential shareholders. Our main purpose is to ensure transparency by providing investors with relevant financial and non-financial information. We also actively solicit the capital market’s feedback on our strategy, operations, and disclosures and factor it into our decision-making. Investors and investor initiatives regularly ask us to provide detailed information about our decarbonization strategy. We prioritize these inquiries, respond to them to the degree possible, and seek transparent dialog with investors on this issue. Discussing and understanding our investors’ views helps us become an even better company.

Our Sustainability Report 2021 and the Investors section of our website provide more information about our investor relations.

Policy debates

Europe wants to become the first climate-neutral continent. This will require its energy system to be fundamentally transformed. This, in turn, will require a policy and regulatory environment that enables companies like Uniper to help propel Europe's decarbonization in ways that make both economic and environmental sense. We therefore engage in ongoing dialog with government entities, regulatory agencies, trade associations, and other stakeholders involved in the political process. We believe that dialog helps shape this process and enables policymakers to make more informed decisions.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs)

Engaging with NGOs, including on controversial issues, broadens our perspective. One forum for this is the Uniper Sustainability Roundtable. It brings us together with NGOs to maintain constructive dialog on issues related to our business. These discussions enable us to continually learn more – including about ourselves – and to identify opportunities to improve.
