Successfully shaping the energy transition is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Success here depends primarily on two interrelated factors: Decarbonization to preserve our environment in the long term, and security of supply for the energy that businesses as well as society need. To accomplish both together, we need to generate, store, and supply more carbon-neutral energy. We also need to diversify our energy supply sources to be as independent as possible from distortions in the markets.
Making energy supply fit for the future
However, this energy transition cannot be managed by one company alone. That is why we are creating technology and exchange platforms - our Energy Transformation Hubs. At these hubs, we are engaging with both local and national stakeholders, and working with our partners in business and industry to reduce CO2 emissions, secure the energy supply for the future and drive forward sector coupling. At selected locations, we are working with our partners on innovative solutions focusing on hydrogen and other climate-friendly gases. We cover the entire value chain - from research, development and innovation, to renewable energy production, conversion, storage and supply, to import and trading.
Our Energy Transformation Hubs are located in key geographic regions in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and the UK and often include one of our power plant and storage sites. This enables us to combine existing and new infrastructure and leverage and strengthen regional conditions and industry structures. With our Energy Transformation Hubs, we are not only making energy supply fit for the future but are also committed to creating new, future-oriented trainings and jobs there.
The Energy Transformation Hubs are crucial to the energy transition, not only for our partners and customers, but also for Uniper as a company: They are an important part of our transformation to an energy company that shapes security of supply and sustainability in a forward-looking way.
