The power plant site at De Constant Rebecqueplein is increasingly the hub of energy sources in The Hague. In this Hague Energy Hub of Uniper, innovative sustainable solutions and existing technologies come together. The regional heat transport pipeline WarmtelinQ will be connected to the local heat network on the Uniper power plant site, in addition to heat from deep underground (geothermal energy) and surface water (aquathermal energy).
The monumental power station stands in the middle of The Hague. An iconic building designed by the Hague city architect A.A. Schadee. In 1906, the power station went into operation to produce electricity. This makes it the oldest power station in the Netherlands still in use. In the years since 1906, much has changed in both the building and its immediate surroundings. Even so, the power station still plays an important role in the supply of energy in The Hague.
The immediate surroundings of this power station in The Hague have changed dramatically over the years. The city has grown rapidly and homes have been built closer and closer to the power station. At the same time, the demand for energy continues to grow every year. The function of the power station remains as important as ever. The production of energy will become increasingly sustainable. That is a challenge that Uniper is keen to take on together with the local community. We have a good relationship with partners such as the municipality, province and water authority.
