This power station with its iconic chimney, completed in 1952, is in the heart of the city centre.
Among Leiden residents, the power station is known as the Lichtfabriek. At the end of 2021, on the initiative of the municipality and in cooperation with Uniper, a work of light art was put into operation. Since then, the chimney has displayed the current wind power in various colors.
The immediate vicinity of the power station - known locally as the Energiepark - is undergoing development. The municipality of Leiden and Uniper are working together to preserve the important function of the active power station in the city centre and at the same time to develop the area into an area where it is pleasant to work, live and relax.
