One day with… Estrella, Data Control Officer

Estrella Delgado is an advocate of knowledge sharing and continuous learning. Her 25 plus-year journey in the utility sector, which has spanned multiple countries in Europe and Latin America, has evolved over time, with a pivotal shift occurring approximately seven years ago when she undertook an online course on big data. Since then, her professional focus has been centered on leveraging data to optimize processes.

In her latest role, Estrella helped the Digital Finance team with digital transformation in Finance. Her primary task involved reimagining and streamlining processes through the application of digital tools, aligned with the "design thinking" methodology. This approach not only involves delivering functional solutions but also empowering other colleagues to embrace new tools, methodologies, and novel ways of thinking. Her process begins with a deep understanding of her colleagues' challenges, followed by careful observation of existing processes and thorough data analysis. She collaborates with her colleagues to co-design solutions, develop prototypes, conduct testing, and implement transformative changes. This approach not only drives projects forward but also fosters deep emotional connections with the people involved.

"I firmly believe in the transformative power of knowledge sharing," Estrella passionately expresses. "My commitment extends beyond providing solutions; it encompasses working closely with individuals so that they can continue to innovate and grow independently."

In a testament to this commitment, Estrella recently teamed up with a colleague to launch the Citizen Developers Community. This initiative aims to provide a dedicated platform for business professionals who develop digital solutions. It serves as a space where like-minded individuals can come together, sharing their knowledge, learning from one another, and offering support in their collective journey towards innovation and growth.

Recently, Estrella embarked on an exciting new chapter in her career as a member of the Renewables team, taking on the role of Data Control Officer. This role is a realization of her dreams, enabling her to combine her engineering background with the knowledge she has accrued in data and digital transformation over the years. Her enthusiasm is palpable as she anticipates helping Renewables throughout the data value chain. Estrella's alignment with Renewable's mission and goals is truly valuable to her.

When asked about what she loves most about working at Uniper, Estrella says, "The Uniper values resonate with me. Our new strategy is convincing and already taking shape. The commitment to realizing our goals and the many brilliant minds eager to collaborate and drive meaningful change is inspiring." She also emphasizes the company's compassionate ethos, especially during the challenging times of the Covid pandemic. She believes that this support nurtured a profound sense of belonging among employees. 

Outside of her professional life, Estrella is a triathlete and a passionate traveler, cook, and gardener. Last August she took part in the 24hours Duisburg Mountain bike challenge with the female Uniper team, a testament to her passion for bonding through shared experiences. In addition to her multifaceted life, she is also the proud mother of two wonderful teenagers, adding yet another dimension to her rich and rewarding journey.
