One day with… Tünde, Project Development Manager Renewables East EU

Summary

Finding purpose in working in a job that changes our future

Although Tünde Lugosi has been a part of Uniper for over ten years, her work life has changed quite a lot since April. That’s when she started a new role as Project Development Manager Renewables East EU, where she is developing solar energy farms with the current focus on Hungary. The team’s main task is to prepare solar projects until they are ready to be build (RtB). This is when sister teams – eg. Engineering, Procurement, HSSE, Sales just to name a few – with all supporting functions start the next steps to develop our solar park ultimately connected to the grid, to market our green energy.

From the beginning on, there was a lot to do for her: Tünde is looking through all the existing documents referring to a big variety of themes: land agreements, agreements with municipalities, archeological institutes, environmental requirements, permits for already acquired projects to get ready for future projects in loop. She describes her job as super varied, is still getting deeper into it and finds it highly inspiring. A big advantage is that she is originally from Hungary and can speak the language, which is very important to negotiate contracts and build trust with the people on site.

For Tünde, her time at Uniper has been a very interesting journey full of new paths on the way. In 2008, when she moved to Düsseldorf, Tünde had the possibility to start a job within Commercial Operations for Uniper Global Commodities. First, she mainly stayed within that division but after some years she had the chance to change to Uniper Innovation, where they developed a fast charger for electric cars. “The company is very varied. It has a lot of highly skillful people with open mindsets, the wish to develop and to change our world exactly to this carbon neutrality we want to reach. There are very good initiatives”, she explains.

This also applies to her current role. In Uniper Renewables, she is part of a very dynamic team that is composed of many international people with a hands-on mentality, which almost feels like a start-up to her. It is also growing on a nearly daily basis, showing Uniper’s dedication to drive decarbonization forward: 80 people are working in Renewables right now, the goal is to almost double this number by the end of the year. Every time Tünde comes into the office, there are new people excited to start their new job. In the Project Development team, her direct colleagues are in the different countries Uniper is focusing on. But even though they don’t see each other personally on a regular basis, they are in contact every day and work efficiently together in a nice atmosphere. Although she greatly appreciates the home office option and digital collaboration, she still likes to take her bike and ride it to the office in Düsseldorf twice a week to meet the new colleagues from other teams.

When asked about her job, she says: “I like that it has a sense. I’m doing a job where I do see that it’s important for us and that it helps changing our future a little – because our world needs to change, and we actively need to drive this process forward. Uniper is a great company with the dedication towards Renewables, therefore the path is open to significantly grow the portion of green energy in our energy mix to reach our Carbon Neutrality goals.”
