Team Rynkeby — Cycling for a Good Cause

Summary

Respect, responsibility and dedication: values the team shares with Uniper

Team Rynkeby — Hohes C has a mission: Improving health and fitness while also helping children with cancer and their families in times of need. The European charity cycling team was founded in Denmark and has been organizing cycle rides to Paris to coincide with the start of the Tour de France for the past 20 years — all to raise money in support of  children suffering from severe illnesses. This year's tour was once again a roaring success, with over 9.5 million Euro raised so far. The riders were also joined by a team from North Rhine-Westphalia for the first time: Team Rynkeby — Hohes C RheinRuhr set out from the state's capital on July 10 and arrived in Paris on July 16, alongside 65 other European teams.

Uniper and our Partner Randstad become Gold Sponsors

A large number of companies, including Uniper and Randstad, supported the project as gold sponsors, providing direct support for the Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung in Bonn, a charity supporting children with cancer in Germany. Supplier of fruit beverages Eckes-Granini covers the overhead costs of the project, while participants cover their own expenses. This allows 100% of all donations and sponsorship money to go to the selected organizations supporting children suffering from critical illnesses in their respective European home countries. In Germany, the four Rynkeby teams—Nieder-Olm, Berlin, Flensburg and RheinRuhr—raise money for the Deutsche Kinderkrebsstiftung. The majority of this money is used to fund clinical research aimed at improving the chances of curing cancer, providing safe treatments for patients and finding new therapeutic approaches.

Diversity Is the Key to Success

This year, around 2500 riders on road bikes and 500 members of the various service teams set off for Paris. Among them were Anna Christina Drieling, Data Protection Officer and Health Ambassador for Uniper Market Analytics, and Annett Löffler, Account Director for Uniper at Randstad Sourceright, both of whom were able to bring their employers on board as gold sponsors for the project. As a managed service provider, Randstad Sourceright supports Uniper's mission "Empowering Energy Evolution." Randstad provides Uniper with the IT and engineering professionals it needs to achieve its goals. The Rynkeby riders know one thing for certain: Sustainable success can only be achieved by working together as one team.

"We both love cycling. When we realized we could combine our hobby with supporting a good cause, we knew straight away that it was something we just had to do," says Annett Löffler. "We really love that the event has given us the chance to both support children suffering from cancer and to be part of an incredibly diverse team in terms of age, profession, cycling experience and personal background of each and every rider. Despite all the differences between us, everyone is working towards one common goal — it's amazing what you can achieve when you work together as a team," continues Anna Drieling. And it's exactly these values that unite Uniper, Randstad and Team Rynkeby: diversity, respect, responsibility and dedication.
