Uniper: The beating heart of energy

Summary

What does it mean to be the beating heart of energy? It means to be the vital force that keeps the energy system running smoothly and sustainably. It means to be the engine that drives industry and everyday life. It means to be the leader in mastering the interplay between electricity and gas – both regionally and on international markets. It means to be Uniper.

At Uniper, we have always provided security of supply based on our portfolio and our ability to flexibly balance our activities across the energy value chain according to the needs of our customers. At the same time, throughout our history, we have proven time and again that we are resilient and can adapt to new circumstances.

Following a year of existential crisis, we recovered quickly and regained financial stability, making 2023 an exceptional year, in which we demonstrated that we are back. Our new Management Board announced a new strategy with ambitious green targets, marking the restart of our company. We also demonstrated our essential role in the European and German energy system, especially during the energy crisis.

But we are not resting on our laurels. 2024 is a year of new beginnings – the first year of the “new” Uniper and the start of a new era.

Our strategy: Accelerating the energy transition

The course for the future has been set: We have a strategy that aims for new, green growth, numerous new projects are in the pipeline. In an era of renewable energy, our ability to adapt to evolving customer needs is more vital than ever.

A new strategy, however, is only part of the equation. While it describes what our targets are, it does not answer three intricately connected questions: Who we are, what we do and how we do it.

Our role in society: The beating heart of energy

We have answered the question of who we are and what we do: Uniper is "the beating heart of energy". Our new claim has been created.

The beating heart is a vibrant force that is as vital for the human body as Uniper is for the energy system. We are as central to the energy system as the heart is to the body. After all, our energy is the engine that drives industry and everyday life. This is especially true in times of scarce energy and major climate challenges. We master the interplay between electricity and gas – both regionally and on international markets. With our flexible portfolio, we deliver the right energy to the right place at the right time - for all our customers.

Our strategy pillars align perfectly with our identity. We invest in flexible power generation, renewables, and greener gases such as hydrogen to secure a sustainable energy future while maintaining a reliable and flexible energy supply.

Our culture: The Uniper Way as bridge that connects all

The Uniper Way answers the question how we do it. With our corporate culture, the “Uniper Way”, we have a guiding principle for how we work together – and thereby fulfil our role in society and implement our strategy. It’s a reflection of our culture, values, and behaviours. It’s all about trust, collaboration, and empowerment. It empowers us to overcome challenges, embrace change, and enhance our performance. Our incredible people play a pivotal role in shaping this journey.

As the Uniper team, we strive to be the beating heart of energy, providing the ideal energy solutions for our customers and embracing our collective role in accelerating the energy transition.

Interested in knowing how, we, as the beating heart of energy, are contributing to security of supply and accelerating the energy transition with our ongoing and upcoming projects across our key markets? Stay tuned for our next blog stories!
