Uniper’s next generation: Our trainee and apprenticeship programs

As an international energy company, we have developed a strategic sustainability plan designed to secure us a leading role in the transformation of energy systems. In a continuously changing industry, realization is only possible with young and motivated characters who are trained by experienced experts and can develop individually.

“What I like most about the Uniper Trainee Program is that it provides a lot of flexibility and freedom with regard to your placements. As a trainee you have the unique opportunity to independently choose the departments you would like to work in. This means that you can explore unknown environments and thus get to know the company on a comprehensive level,” emphasizes Lisa, who has opted for the Internal Audit & ICS program between the different directions at our company. Since her onboarding, she has helped us increase the value of Uniper and improve operations. At the same time, our trainees take part in tailored training and learning measures – such as training courses, workshops, group projects and placements at power plants.

In order to give interested talents the opportunity to get to know the entire company and enter the energy world, we have carefully developed trainee and apprenticeship programs. Through a combination of flexible and predefined positions, young adults can gain cross-industry and international experience at Uniper.

During two years, trainees can choose between numerous schemes such as Engineering, IT, Internal Audit & ICS, Finance, Procurement, Energy Politics, Sales, Asset Operations, Asset Management, Trading & Commercial Track, Operational Excellence, Innovation, and HR. During this time they are accompanied by individual mentors and an assigned buddy.

In addition, we also train classical apprentices. We give apprentices the opportunity to develop their technical or commercial skills within three years. Half of this training consists of attending vocational school and the other half of practical training, so that apprentices can immerse themselves in the company and get to know the diversity of our fields of activity.
