Electricity – invisible but indispensable

Electricity – invisible but indispensable

Electricity is invisible, but indispensable. As industry ramps up, transportation becomes electrified, and climate targets become more stringent, the demand for electricity to be available at all times increases. Electricity often makes no fuss, but when life happens, a functioning electricity supply is needed, regardless of whether it concerns the small or big moments. Uniper stands for continuous, fossil-free electricity production and stability in each of these moments.

Electrification

Coffee is like electricity, indispensable for Swedish competitiveness

Reliable electricity is a prerequisite for safe everyday life, competitive industry and the coffee maker. We make sure that the electricity is always there, even when you can't see it.

Electricity – invisible but indispensable for Swedish industry

Electricity powers the machines, keeps the pace up and ensures that production never stops. A reliable electrical system is crucial for the competitiveness of industry and our everyday lives.

Electricity – Sweden's invisible hero – so skiing is not jeopardized

Reliable electricity is essential for a functioning society. This is particularly important during the winter months, when the electricity system is under high pressure.

Electrification – for competitiveness and climate

Electrification is a crucial step in Sweden's climate transition. As industries switch from fossil fuels to electricity and transportation and heating become increasingly electrified, demand for electricity is growing rapidly. Uniper plays a key role in meeting the need for a robust, flexible, and reliable electricity system.

Ensuring electricity is available when it’s needed

Even though we cannot see electricity, it is always present. From factories and server halls to hospitals and homes, electricity should not only be there when we press a button. It should be stable, fossil-free, and delivered at exactly the right moment and with the right frequency. That is why Uniper is investing in power plants, battery solutions, and technology that strengthen the reliability of the electricity system so that Sweden gets electricity where it is needed, when it is needed.

Invisible but indispensable for Swedish competitiveness

At Uniper, we are dedicated to delivering reliable electricity, even during the winter months when the electricity system is working hard.

System stability easily explained

As electricity becomes ever more significant to our daily lives and the future, it is increasingly important that we have a functioning and stable electricity supply that we can trust, at all hours of the day and in all weather conditions. So that society and the economy can keep functioning and continue to develop every day of the year. What would happen if suddenly there were disturbances in Sweden's electricity system?

A future that requires more electricity

Electrification is already underway, but the pace must increase. To keep pace with planned needs, Sweden needs to add at least ten new terawatt hours of electricity per year. This requires reforms in several areas:

  • Market models need to be developed so that stable energy sources receive the right compensation to be able to contribute to system services and security
  • Infrastructure projects and permit processes must be implemented more quickly so that new electricity production and expanded networks can be put in place on time
  • New technologies such as hydrogen, energy storage, and smart grids must continue to be developed and integrated into the system

In addition, the electricity grid in large parts of the country will need to be replaced and reinforced so that the transmission of electricity, both within the country and to other countries, works even better. This is also important so that Sweden can continue to contribute to the global climate transition through the export of fossil-free electricity and fossil-free products.
