Energy Storage

We store gaseous energy underground. By storing natural gas, we are now making a contribution to the security of energy supply. As one of the largest operators of underground natural gas storage facilities in Germany and Europe, we currently provide 25% of the gas storage capacity in Germany. We operate gas storage facilities in Germany, Austria and the UK with a total capacity of more than 80 TWh / 7 billion cubic meters. This is about 10% of the annual gas consumption in Germany.

In the coming years, we will also make better use of renewable energies by storing hydrogen. In this way, we are promoting the energy transition in Germany and Europe, in which green hydrogen produced by renewable electricity plays a central role.
