Our commitment to health and safety extends to the employees of our business partners and to the people who live near or visit our facilities. We aim to provide a supportive work environment in which our people feel confident sharing their ideas and trying new approaches. Their creativity is crucial to our success.

Our strategic plan
Commitment
-
Respect labor rights and ensure a safe, healthy, and secure work environment for all employees and contractors; promote the same standards in our joint ventures and partnerships
Target
- Certify 100% of Uniper’s operational assets to ISO 45001 by 2022
- Achieve a Group-wide combined TRIF threshold of 1.0 or below by 2025
Our people's health and safety
100%
ISO45001 certified operating entities
Maintaining high health and safety standards is a core Uniper value first and foremost because we care about our people. Safety is also of practical importance: it enables us to avoid work stoppages and lost time that result from accidents. The occupational health and safety management systems of all Uniper’s operating entities are certified to ISO 45001.
1.51
Combined TRIF
Our safety metric for management purposes is combined total recordable incident frequency (TRIF). It measures the number of work-related accidents sustained by our employees and contractors per million hours of work. Combined TRIF increased by 29% to 1.51 in 2021 (2020: 1.17). In response, we’ve launched business-specific and Uniper-wide safety improvement programs that aim to reverse this negative trend in 2022. We’ve also committed to reducing the threshold for combined TRIF to 1.0 by 2025.
Fair and attractive employer
Fair and attractive employer
We place a significant emphasis on an open and trusting corporate culture, which we call the Uniper Way. Our employees are key to our success. The labor market is highly competitive. This makes having a strong and attractive employer brand crucial for attracting and hiring the kind of people who can help Uniper realize its ambition.

Top 10%
Uniper is among Sweden’s top 10% of employers in terms of working conditions.
In 2021 Sweden’s Nyckeltalsinstitutet, an HR consulting organization, again named Uniper an excellent employer. This ranks us among Sweden’s top 10% of employers in terms of working conditions.
At year-end 2021 the Uniper Group had 11,494 employees (not including board members, managing directors, apprentices, work study students and interns). This is a 2.2% reduction relative to year-end 2020.
NUMBER OF UNIPER EMPLOYEES
We hired 1,122 new employees (including temporary staff, managing directors/board members, interns, working students, and apprentices) from outside our company in 2021, primarily for our businesses in Germany and Russia.
