We intelligently link the sectors to pave the way towards climate neutrality in 2050
Setting the pace in hydrogen: We are active worldwide along the entire value chain and are running major projects in Germany, Sweden, UK and the Netherlands to establish hydrogen as a mainstay of future energy supply. To this end we are developing and implementing hydrogen projects across Europe in the areas of production, transport, storage and application. While hydrogen can be produced in a variety of ways, power-to-gas technology (which we have been pioneering since 2013) is the driving force behind converting green electrons into green molecules, which is key to decarbonizing particularly hard-to-reduce industries.
Long-standing expertise in global procurement: Due to rising demand, Europe has to cover a large part of its requirements through imports. To this end, we are developing import sources for Germany and Europe worldwide. We are excellently positioned to support Europe supply clean energy and build a strong commercial position in the global hydrogen economy.
Part of a national and European hydrogen movement: In national and European associations, we work together to drive hydrogen innovation and establish the hydrogen economy in Europe.
Our projects will shape the European hydrogen market
We develop hydrogen projects from pilot plant to market maturity and establish Energy Transformation Hubs.
We investigate in several technologies
Our goal: to produce sustainable hydrogen and enable an integrated energy transition
As a true enabler of sectoral integration, hydrogen makes an indispensable contribution to the energy transition. In particular, sectors that cannot decarbonize their processes based on green electricity alone (e.g. steel and refineries, aviation and shipping) will be supported by the use of hydrogen on their way to reducing emissions.
Various technologies are available to produce carbon-free and low-carbon hydrogen or, in a second process step, even hydrogen derivatives such as e-fuels and green methanol.
- Blue and turquoise hydrogen are produced from natural gas without releasing CO2 into the atmosphere. This hydrogen production can therefore be described as CO2-neutral.
- Power-to-gas (PtG) technology is used for the production of green hydrogen. The conversion of 100% electricity from renewable sources (e.g. wind and solar energy) into hydrogen by electrolysis has the additional advantage that large quantities of green electricity can be stored in the form of green molecules. Hydrogen thus makes renewable energy storable for the long term and solves a core problem of the energy transition: Storing large amounts of energy allows for consistent consumption, which is critical for many industries. Hydrogen provides energy when the wind is not blowing and the sun is not shining.
Since 2013, we have been pioneering Power-to-Gas with three successful pilot plants.
Our Power-to-Gas pilot plants
As a pioneer in the field of power-to-gas, we commissioned power-to-gas pilot plants in Germany at an early stage in order to further develop the potential of converting wind power into hydrogen and synthetic methane.
Events to meet us
Hannover Messe
Hannover, Germany
22nd–26th April 2024
